1st Project: Zines/Magazine
My
Projects
This is the Project Page. It's a great opportunity to for me to showcase the work I've been producing. So scroll and enjoy!
The first project I would like to present is one I completed during the first term of last year. This project involved designing a zine and a magazine on a topic of our choice. I was particularly enthusiastic about this project because it allowed for a great deal of creative freedom and self-expression. Given my passion for illustration, I naturally chose to focus my zine on that subject.

Stylescape for the project:
This project involved creating a magazine that explores how art can assist in managing mental health issues. Drawing from my own experiences, I demonstrated how engaging with art can improve one's mood and encourage the exploration of new activities.
From a design perspective, working with bright and bold colors was particularly enjoyable, as these choices were well-suited for my target audience of teenagers. The vibrant color palette helped to capture and maintain their attention, making the magazine visually appealing and engaging. Throughout this project, I had the opportunity to focus extensively on my illustrations, which allowed me to incorporate several of my own drawings. These illustrations not only added a personal touch to the magazine but also enabled me to share how art has supported me through various hardships.
Also, I've included a section with step-by-step guides on how to draw simple images, specifically designed for beginners. This aspect of the project was especially rewarding, as it allowed me to combine my passion for illustration with my desire to inspire and educate others. Creating these guides was an enjoyable process, and I took great care in ensuring they were clear, accessible, and encouraging for those new to drawing.
2nd Project: New Enterprise
Now, I would like to present the second project, completed during the third term of last year, which was titled 'New Enterprise.' The essence of this project was to create a service aimed at providing aid or support to the community. For my contribution, I chose to develop an app called 'Go Relaxed,' designed to help individuals manage anxiety. This project allowed me to combine my technical skills with my desire to address a significant mental health issue, providing a valuable resource for those in need.

Stylescape:
Go Relaxed' was a comprehensive campaign I developed, featuring various collateral elements such as a stylescape, brand guidelines, posters, website mock-ups, and a wireframe outlining the app's layout.
This project significantly contributed to my growth as a designer. While it was less illustrative than I typically prefer, it provided an opportunity to hone my technical skills in developing and designing these materials.Working with warm color palettes was particularly enjoyable, and the process of creating wireframes, despite my limited experience in interactive design, presented an engaging challenge. This project also deepened my understanding of the critical role of design elements, especially logos. In the brand guidelines, several pages are dedicated to explaining the importance of maintaining the integrity of the logo, emphasizing the necessity of avoiding any rearrangement or alteration. This aspect of the project was a valuable learning experience, enhancing my comprehension of proper layout and design principles."

3rd Project: Passion Project
Here is my third and final project I'll be showing you today. This was our passion project that was given to us last year in term four. We were given complete freedom to base our project on anything we wanted and I decided to do a subject that resonated deeply with me, I chose to focus my project on bringing awareness to women's rights by using poster art.
This was a project I felt a strong passion for and continued to do so for the whole term, not only was it based on a design style I'm strong with but also based around a topic that resonates deeply with me. Despite being an illustration dominated project, it was actually dominated by all the research about the events that happened in the women's right movement.
The Project:
Here is my main research question. “Can illustration and Graphic Design in poster art be a vector for women's rights and gender equality?”
Well, Visual elements can convey powerful messages, evoke emotions, and effectively communicate key issues. Well-designed posters have the potential to captivate audiences, spark conversations, and inspire action, making them valuable tools in raising awareness and advocating for positive change in the realm of women's rights and gender equality. So throughout my project, I'll be showing you just how impactful poster art may be when it comes to spreading awareness and sharing an important message
Field Review:
During my field review, I researched three artists whose work raises awareness about women's rights: Molly, Devon, and Brooke. Molly's art conveys her technical mastery and emotional responses to civil and social injustices. Devon, a cisgender white woman, acknowledges her privileges and addresses her experiences of objectification and inequality in her work, such as the "Let Me Speak" poster. Brooke contributed to the Women's March on Washington, creating art to honor and express gratitude to women who fought for voting rights, emphasizing that women's rights are human
Poster Drafts:
Here are the drafts of the final posters. A few have simple designs while others have a more complex and detailed look. I've decided to go with the design of a figure in the middle with a quote that represents either a deeper meaning or raising awareness to women's rights. Which now, leads me to final designs.
Target Audience:
My target audience will consist of women between the ages of 18-26. Women aged 18-26 may find interest in poster art advocating women's rights as it resonates with their generation's commitment to social justice. These artworks often express empowering messages, fostering a sense of solidarity and encouraging motivation. Additionally, the visually impactful nature of posters can effectively convey powerful ideas and prompt discussions on crucial issues surrounding women's rights.
Visual Style:
For my passion project, I employed a visual style that combines elegant and bold typography. Elegant fonts add sophistication and importance to the message, while bold fonts enhance visibility and emphasize key points, creating a visually compelling design.
The color palette was inspired by the women's suffrage flag, featuring purple, white, and yellow to symbolize loyalty, quality, and life. These colors were chosen by the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU), with green representing hope.
Lastly, I created a moodboard featuring bright, bold colors and central figures for the posters. This draft style guided my initial experiments in the project.
Final Posters:
Here are the final designs of the posters, featuring quotes and the chosen color palette. The primary color is purple, which is significant in the women's rights movement, symbolizing freedom, royalty, luxury, and power. Though not traditionally associated with freedom, purple resonates deeply with the movement's ethos.
The posters are divided into three categories, each featuring different quotes. One poster states, "Own your journey," representing a woman finding her freedom and taking control of her life. Another reads, "Freedom’s flame, women’s name," emphasizing the association with women's freedom. The top middle poster, with the quote "Kiwi women stood tall," pays tribute to the women of New Zealand who fought for women's rights and equality.
Final Posters:
Additional posters serve as reminders and promote awareness that women's rights are human rights. These designs, with their simple yet empowering imagery and meaningful colors, aim to evoke pride, strength, and solidarity among women. The minimalist yet impactful approach communicates a clear message of equality and empowerment, inspiring positive emotions and a sense of belonging, and encouraging women to feel empowered and motivated to contribute to the ongoing progress of women's rights.

The design style for the brand was bright and bold with a few optical illusions in the mix to convey a dizzy and disorienting effect.
Here are a few examples for the stylescape and patterns.
This last project is a group one that was done this year in the first term. A brief recap of this project was that my group decided to base this project on the problem of binge drinking amongst NZ youth and how would we be able to raise awareness to this problem. So, our group concluded in a pop up event that is more like a "fun house" that allows the visitors to walk through a barrage of sensory or optical illusions to help them feel the effect of being drunk without drinking alcohol. I was in charge of the styling of my group's brand.
Inclusivity
I want to create a non-judgmental and supportive environment that welcomes individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences to engage with, especially with who I work for.
