Kia ora!
I'm Annette Vaili, a proud Samoan/Maori with a passion for graphic design, all though I mainly focus more on illustration.
The domain name "Marae-Vaili-Designs" comes from my middle and last name. Marae is the name of my great grandmother on my mother's side. While Vaili is the last name from my father's side. This is mainly due to the fact that I wanted to represent both sides of my heritage through my portfolio.
Whether it's through intricate patterns, vibrant colors, or symbolic motifs, my work is a celebration of culture and creativity. I believe in the power of design to inspire, connect, and make a lasting impact.
My Story
My design journey began with a the passion for art, illustrating fun little characters and patters which grew into an urge to develop my skills more and in a manner where they could be used to convey all sorts of messages but more on that later.
When working on projects, I seem to understand that I thrive when the designs are more based on illustrations. Yet I can work with typography, geometric or corporate but my strong suit is when it comes to portraying brands and messages through my artistic visual. My designs are rooted in the belief that good design not only looks beautiful but also serves a purpose and tells a story. I'm constantly inspired by the world around me, drawing from diverse influences to create designs that are both timeless and impactful.
But when working on designs, I’m not fussy with the materials I work with, such as colors, fonts, tones, etc. But I will mention that I have a stronger connection towards brighter and warmer colors, specifically due to the fact that bright and warm colors can add depth and dimension to illustrations, enhancing the overall mood and storytelling. They can be used to emphasize focal points, create contrast, and convey a sense of warmth and intimacy in the artwork, making it more engaging and immersive for the viewer.
But as my journey continues, you can find me exploring the great outdoors, experimenting with new art styles, or indulging in my love for illustrations. I'm always seeking new challenges and opportunities to grow as a designer and look forward to the possibility growing and developing my skills.
